Many of us had to memorize poetry as a class assignment during our childhood. It amazes me how, years later, people often still remember those poems.
We are hosting an event in celebration of memory and poetry. Storied Gifts is sponsoring an event called Remembered Poetry Slam. The competition will take place on our Facebook page from November 19 (8 a.m.) until November 29 (11 p.m.). Whether you’re 12, 32 or 92 if you have a poem you remember, we invite you to recite it in a video and share it on our Storied Gifts Facebook page with the #rememberedpoetryslam from November 19, through November 29.
Remembered Poetry Slam Rules
First decide on a favorite poem you remember and perhaps practice it a few times.
Give it your best recitation and record it in a video. Please include the name of the poem, name of poet, and when you memorized it. And also mention how old-ish you are now.
You have between November 19, and November 29, to upload your remembered poetry video.
Please Include the hashtag #rememberedpoetryslam with your video submission.
Fun For Thanksgiving!
Looking for fun things to do together with family and friends during Thanksgiving? Try asking those gathered if they remember a poem and then record them for the competition! You’ll be surprised to learn what poems children were taught throughout the years.
And the Winner Is Rewarded
We will announce the winner of the first Storied Gifts Remembered Poetry Slam on December 2 and make a donation of $50 in their name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
